The DeChant Travel Letter

Ed DeChant became involved in travel as an Airline Pilot in 1966.   That year he left a career as a journalist to spend the next 37 years piloting Jets around the world for one of America's biggest international airlines.

After his switch to flying,  DeChant continued to write magazine articles on travel, boating and  aviation.   While doing research for travel articles he met many suppliers.  That led in 1979 to his founding  Aero-Marine Interline Tours, a travel company  which sold destination travel to airline staff.  Airlline staff were frequently spurned by regular travel agents because they used their travel passes and thus cut the travel agent from the commission on air travel.  Years ago that commission was as much as 18%.

Aero-Marine quickly  became "the travel agent to the airline employee."   DeChant gained a world wide reputation of providing airline employees with a wide assortment of high quality land packages. His travel products ultimately  spanned 40 countries.  He developed techniques of finding suppliers who were willing to extend discounts and still provide superior quality for Aero-Marine's clients.

But retirement came near the turn of the century.   In 2000 he sold Aero-Marine and in 2001 he flew his last flight as an airline Captain.

Retirement from the Airlines was mandated due to the age 60 rule for airline Captains as the FAA will not allow people over 60 to pilot commercial jets in airline service.

Since then the DeChant family has continued to travel extensively.   He continues to find new travel opportunities, often through the internet, which he shares via this newsletter with people.   The email newsletter is now received by more than 15,000 individuals.  This email list is not sold or given to anyone.  The names that are on the list came to DeChant via email.  The list was not purchased.  The travel letter is free.

You will note that DeChant is a Francophile who has spent much time cruising the canals and rivers of France and the rest of Europe.  There is a European flavor to his writings.  His newsletter, however, is  world wide and provides the reader with much valuable information on the current state of travel around the  world.
